First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria’s Visit
We were honored to be visited by Reuben Berg, co-chair, and Prue Stewart, the head of governance and negotiations at First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria’s ‘Treaty for Victoria’. Reuben and Prue answered questions and educated us on the Advancing the Treaty Process with Aboriginal Victorians. They shared insights into the Assembly’s role, the importance of self-determination, and how the treaty aims to establish a formal relationship between the Victorian Government and Aboriginal communities to ensure lasting recognition, rights, and reconciliation.
“The first Statewide Treaty will make sure our communities are properly represented and can use local knowledge to come up with practical solutions to improve the lives of our people across the state.”
